South African pear exporters welcome access to the Chinese market

Time:2022-1-7 Author:Alex Zhou

Hortgro, South Africa’s deciduous fruit industry regulator, announced in late December 2021 that South African pears will finally be allowed to enter the Chinese market, Hortgro said, adding that with the Asian market accounting for about 22 percent of South African pear exports in 2021 and the region maintaining healthy growth over the past five years, the Chinese market is critical for the South African pear industry to achieve sustainable development. Tru-Cape, a large South African fruit exporter, welcomed the entry into the Chinese market, noting that the advantage of exporting pears from South Africa to China is the ability to meet “out-of-season” supplies.
